Facial pigmentation and sun damage in mature skinAge spots and sun spots
Age spots, also known as liver spots or solar lentigines, are flat brown or black areas of pigmentation that commonly appear on skin exposed to the sun, particularly the face, shoulders, arms and hands. They can affect both women and men and may respond to IPL or laser treatment.

Freckles and facial pigmentation before treatmentSun spots or solar lentigines are the same as age spots & the causes can generally be the same, as are the treatments.  (For further reading on Age Spots & the ageing process, please see our Skin Rejuvenation treatment page).

SkinteX treatments include recommendations to help avoid future damage & problems, allowing you to have a skin which regenerates with a younger, tighter, healthier feel.

It’s all to do with absorption of light (energy) so it is accurate to say that ‘All pigment absorbs laser light well, it responds favourably and is easily removed. By this we mean, because pigment sits near the surface of the skin, often not many sessions are required’.

Whereas freckles are usually genetic, age spots or sun spots are caused by long term exposure to UV rays from the sun. Age or sun spots will get darker with passing years or if one spends prolonged time in the sun, so a broad-spectrum SPF is recommended, whereas freckles may get lighter in winter months and darker in summer months. Our general advice is keep away from sunbeds where possible.

For efficacy we treat these conditions with our technology of laser &/or IPL machines & include regular skin care treatments using the highest grade of cosmeceutical products (not available over the counter).

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Treatments usually range from 2-7 sessions every 6 weeks depending on tech used & thereafter depends upon your skin condition, severity of a recurring problem, especially if it’s hereditary. We offer post treatment solutions, by recommending a personal regimen, or Personal Skincare Treatment Program (PSTP), to minimise recurrence & maintain your tone & texture.

Aftercare and skin maintenance
SkinteX may also recommend professional skincare and cosmeceutical products to support treatment results and help maintain a brighter, more even complexion. Advice on reducing future sun damage can also form part of the treatment plan.
